Our Three Year Anniversary

Today is our three year wedding anniversary!  I had so much fun on our wedding day.  Best party I ever threw!  I wish we could get married again each year…but without paying for it again!  Oh to party like that again would be wonderful!  Did I ever tell you that I did a rope swing at my reception?  Like in my dress and everything?  Well, I did!  Here is proof!  That is my sister next to me!

That lady thought I was on drugs! "You're gonna swing in that dress???"

We had our reception in Architecture Hall at The City Museum in St. Louis.  If you ever get to St. Louis you HAVE to go there.  One of the coolest places on earth!  They have a 7 story slide which I am sure every member of my wedding party went down!  They also have a 2 story one and my Great Aunt even went down that one!

I’ll give you a photo recap of our wedding day and how we spent our first and second anniversary, in case you were curious!

2008:  Wedding Day!  We lived in MN but got married in my hometown of St. Louis, MO.  We had some of our wedding pictures taken in the new Busch Stadium and also with my good friend, the Arch!

2009:  I surprised Freddy by renting a Harley (We used to own one but sold it shortly after Michael was born).  We took the bike on a trip to Red Wing, MN which is where we got engaged.  We ate at the same restaurant to celebrate our 1 year anniversary.

2010:  Freddy took me on a weekend trip to Duluth, MN.  We walked along lake Superior, went bar hopping, took naps (ahhh sleep! Ryan was just 2 months old!) and got all dressed up and had a wonderful dinner at the hotel’s spinning restaurant!

And now we are celebrating our Third Anniversary!  I bet he is starting to wonder what he was thinking asking me to marry him!!!

Happy Anniversary Babe!

Do You Remember?

Do you remember where you were 1o years ago today?  I do.

I was in my third year of college.  I had just gotten out of the shower and I heard my phone ringing.  I let it go to my machine.  It rang again and went to the machine and then rang again.  I was annoyed!  Leave a message I thought Jeez!  I finally answered it and it was my boyfriend almost shouting at me to turn on the TV.  “Turn on a news channel!”  It didn’t really matter what channel I turned the TV to, the pictures were all the same.  The burning twin towers.  When I finally caught my bearings and realized what was going on my heart just dropped as I listened to the news reporter say that one of the planes departed from Newark NJ.  My uncle was an avid traveller for his job and flew through that airport on a regular basis.

I called him.  No answer.  I called my Aunt.  No answer.  I left messages on both.

Next I called my dad at work.  I tried not to be a baby but I cried to him.  He worked in downtown St. Louis and I just wanted him to GET OUT OF THE CITY and go home!  You remember movies like Independence Day where they target all major cities.  Well St. Louis was major in my eyes and he was there and I wanted him out.  Not the most rational thought process I have had, but at the moment everything was irrational.  He reassured me he was safe and sound and I shouldn’t worry.  He called me “baby” like he always did and it did make me feel better.

I remember not being able to turn the TV off.  I remember thinking my professor was CRAZY for not cancelling our stupid lab glass that afternoon.  Luckily it was a nice break from the news.  The death tolls and horror stories just kept rising and so sitting through a horrible class while deriving theories using Mathcad (worst program ever) actually was better.

I got home from lab and my Aunt had called me back and told me that my uncle was safe.

As I think back on that day now, it might hurt a little more now than then.  I am a mother now.  I am a wife now.  I feel so much more aware of the pain those families had to go through now that I have a family of my own.  The fear I have of something like that happening today is just unmeasurable.  Then it was just me.  Now it is my family.

The National 9/11 50 states flag tour ends here in Joplin, MO today.  The final stitches will be completed using flags that survived the May 22nd Tornado.  If you care to read more about this tour you can click here, where I found a great article.

Again…this is very close to home today.  Remembering 9/11 and remembering the tornado.

Kiss your loved ones and squeeze them extra tight!  I am sure I will.

Thank you to all who have died, served and are continuing to serve for our country.  Thank you to their families as well.  The wifes, husbands, sons, daughters, mothers, fathers, sisters and brothers who have also given for this country through your pain of losing or missing a loved one while they protect us all.

Welcome to the Family Part 2

Well last time in “Welcome to the Family” I introduced you to everyone living in my house.  Well now it’s time to introduce you to my clan whom are not living with me.  Freddy has two older daughters, from his earlier days.  If you happened to read my “About” page, you will recall that I compare my life to the show Modern Family.   So in addition to a husband who is 18 years older than me, I have two step-daughters that are 29 and 25 (26 in like 2 weeks) and one daughter’s girlfriend who is 30 (31 in a few weeks).  Yep!  They are MY AGE!  But don’t you worry your pretty/handsome little head…we have some fun with it!

Meet Nicole.  Kevin’s oldest daughter.  Turns out, she happens to be one of my best friends!  I know right?!  She was a bridesmaid in my wedding and I honestly can tell her anything.  There is only ONE thing on this great big planet that she and I do NOT talk about and that is…well…her DAD is my husband…so we don’t talk about anything related to the lovin’.  A.  Gross, for her, it’s her DAD and B. Gross, for me, it’s her DAD!   Otherwise I can and do, tell her just about anything!  Michael and Ryan just adore her!

Meet Marie.  Nicole’s girlfriend.  We love her, even though she is a CUBS fan (BLAH!) She can make some mean play-doh cars for Michael.  You will never find her with a green shirt on and blue eyeshadow!  She color coordinates and has more eyeshadow than Cover Girl.  She will redo her makeup if she changes shirts…cracks me up!

Meet Ann.  Kevin’s youngest daughter.  I send her a steady supply of Tide Spot Sticks as she is quite the “spiller”.  She appreciates it, as I often get a text every few weeks telling me that stick saved her again!  Glad to be of help!

Nicole and I get a big kick out of our age difference…or lack there of.  We were together shopping and while at the check out Nicole was digging through her purse for some gum.  The store clerk said, “Are you two sisters?”  Without even looking up from her gum search, she says all nonchalantly and casual, “No, she is my step-mom.  She married my dad” not even giving the clerk a glance or any indication that Nicole herself should find this weird.  I on the other hand was soaking in the pure SHOCK on the clerks face!  The clerk looked at me then and I just pointed to myself and said “Evil Step Mother”.  Love it!  We play it up quite often.  We enjoy the fun!  I mean you have to when your baby brother is 27 years younger than you!

And here is a cute picture of all “My” kids at Christmas this year.  We live in 3 different states between us all and July in Colorado (family picture above) and this picture from Christmas are the only times, I believe, we have all been together at the same time!  Kind of crazy too!

Mommapalooza 2011

Yep, that is the name I graced our Mommy’s Only Float Trip that we had this past weekend. Merrsidotes and I kept complaining to one another that we needed something more than a night out.  Something that was just for mommies where we could talk honestly and without criticism (husbands) and after all the belly aching about it, she sent out a group email to some mommies and we settled on a date. Seems so simple, wondering why it took us so long to actually just PICK A DATE!

5 Mommies were in attendance. We had a beautiful day filled with floating, chatting, gossiping, bitching and supporting. Oh and did I mention booze?  Yeah we had a bit of that also! The first Mommapalooza was deemed a success and we all are thinking of more mommies to invite to make it even better next year!!!

5 Mommies, 0 Husbands or Children, 1 river, 1 raft and plenty of booze!

I urge all mommies to call your other mommy friends and PICK A DATE! Best thing I have done for myself in so very long!
