Spicing Up My Suds!

Is there a chore you despise?  Maybe even two?  Well for me, it might just be laundry!  Not the actual loading of the washer/dryer, that part doesn’t bother me so much but the FOLDING and PUTTING AWAY of the laundry might just be the death of me.  Lucky for me, my husband is a laundry-o-holic!  Yep, you heard me:  My husband does laundry!  And a lot of it by the way, like multiple times a week.  Might also be the reason I married him!

I decided to make a cute little container for my suds to sit in.  I was tired of looking at that bright blue bag!  I found this great glass jar at Hobby Lobby (50% off).  It has an extra wide mouth so it should be easy to get soap for loads easily.  The jar itself was pretty blah.

I spray painted the lid with black spray paint in a few very light even coats.  Since I do not have a Silhouette, I simply used some scrapbooking stickers (also 50% off at HL) to add the word “Suds” and the cute little swirl detail.

Maybe now I will enjoy folding laundry more if I get to look at this cute container…yeah it’s probably going to take more than a container for that to happen!

Wondering about that bright blue bag?  I use a laundry detergent from a Canadian based company called Norwex.  I love it and I live by their products.  I would never push a product on anyone except for Norwex products (and my Bare Minerals make up).  But let’s get back to laundry.  I use Norwex’s laundry detergent which is biodegradable and contains no fillers.  I use about 1/2 to 1 tablespoon of the stuff per load.  Yes, you read me correctly, HALF A TABLESPOON!   It works on even the messiest poop explosion Ryan can throw my way or the blackest of socks that Michael produces.  It has saved some clothes from the dreaded Watermelon stains!  (how can something like watermelon stain so stinkin’ bad? Hell, it has WATER in it’s name for pete’s sake!) I absolutely love it and will not use another detergent again.

Note: These thoughts are all my own and I was in no way compensated for talking about my love for Norwex or Bare Minerals make up.  I just love them and ramble about them.

Another Note:  If you are interested in learning more about Norwex, please click here.  You can read their mission, view their products and also order online.  I own my fair share of their products so if you have a question or need a testimonial just let me know!  I can give you one if I have the product!

Flower Power

I am nuts about the flower applique shirts that are out there.  I am not nuts about the price.  $50 for a T-SHIRT???  Unless that thing cooks dinner for me and takes me to a movie, I can find better things to do with $50.  Especially because the odds are high that this said shirt will get some sort of child DNA on it whether that be pee, puke, blood, snot or drool…Oh the joys of motherhood.

So I set out to make my own!  And for CHEAP!

I bought (2) V-neck T’s at Wal-Mart for $2 each.  Yep that’s right TWO-DOLLA-BABY!  I bought one in my size and then bought a second in a XXL.  I am cutting it up so might get my money’s worth!

I started by cutting along the seams and separating the shirt.  I then cut it into 2″ strips and from the strips, I cut a bunch of these guys below.

Next I battled with that $#*$&^@ sewing machine for about 1 hour  (please omit this step if you try this at home!)

Then, I just did a gather stitch by hand.  Believe me, hand sewing this entire shirt was faster than the time it took me to battle the beast! I put two petals on top of each other and off centered

I gave them a good ‘ole gather stitch So I now have a bunch of these cute little guys.

I originally had a different lay out in mind but when I pinned them all on the shirt and then tried the shirt on, I just didn’t like the way they were placed.  I couldn’t get them in the right positions so that they weren’t like “HELLO!  HERE IS EXACTLY WHERE MY NIPPKES ARE!  IN CASE YOU DIDN’T ALREADY KNOW!”  So after a couple of re-pins, I decided to steer in this direction.

I pinned them along the neckline, tried it on to verify they looked OK, took the shirt off and hand stitched them in place.

I had more of these cute little flowers just dying to be used, so I added a few to my left hip area at the bottom of the shirt.  Ryan is glued to my right hip so they found a happy place on my left hip 🙂

I didn’t get any of me actually wearing the shirt but it’s super cute!  You will just have to make your own or take my word for it!

I am pretty excited with my $4 shirt!  I have left over shirt material and flowers so I am sizing up just about everything in my wardrobe wondering what else I can add a bit of flower power to!

Dates to Remember

I can’t take credit for this idea.  I saw it on Pinterest!   If you haven’t realized my love for Pinterest yet…let me tell you, I LOVE PINTEREST!  You can follow me and all my pins here or you can click on the “P beaker = {Follow Me on Pinterest}” button in my sidebar (more on those fun buttons later!)    If you need an invite to this awesome site, send me your email address and I will be happy to invite you!  You can leave your address in a comment below or email it to me at thatswhatchesaid {at} hotmail {dot} com.

So here is my pin from Pinterest:

source amandasteed.com via Cheryl on Pinterest

She made hers with a Silhouette, but like I talked about before, I don’t have all the fun gadgets yet, so I made mine on PSE and printed it off using a Winkflash Daily Deal.  If you don’t have access to Photoshop, you could also use Picnik, which is a free software.  You can choose which ever dates are important to you!  I love this idea.  It’s abstract but personal all at the same time.  I love multi tasking 🙂    Here is mine!

And here is what it looks like printed, framed and hung on the wall.

I will upgrade to a larger, matted frame soon, but for now this is what I had on hand and I love it.  Now my husband has no reason to forget our important dates!  We’ll see if it works!

I Spy Bingo!

Whenever you have to spend more than 15 minutes in the car, with kids, you know you better come prepared!  If you can remember, I talked about Michael and his 8,973,672 questions he asks in the car.  If he asks you a question, and doesn’t like the answer, he will ask that SAME question, OVER AND OVER again until you give him an answer he is comfortable with.  (It took me a few times to figure this out)  He does not accept “Because that’s just how it works”,  “Because that’s just what happens” or “Because I said so” as acceptable answers.

Michael:  “Mom, why is grass green but dirt is brown?”

Me: “Because that’s how it was made to look”
(few second pause while he thinks about your answer)

(Insert annoying “incorrect buzzer sound”) WRONG!

Michael: “Mom, why is grass green but dirt is brown?”

Me:   “Because they are different things so God made them with different colors so we can tell them apart”
(few second pause while he processes that information)

(Insert annoying “incorrect buzzer sound”) WRONG!

Michael:  “Mom, I know grass is green and dirt is brown so we can tell the difference, but WHY are they different?”

Me: BANGING HEAD AGAINST STEERING WHEEL BECAUSE THIS IS MINUTE 28 OF THE QUESTIONS AND I CAN’T TAKE ANYMORE!!!!
So I answer how any Chemical Engineering mother would answer, “Michael grass and most other plants are green because they contain a pigment known as chlorophyll.  Dirt is brown because there is about three times as much carbon in soil than in plant biomass. “

(much longer pause)

Michael: “But Mom, why is the Dirt Brown”  He says the words “Dirt” and “Brown” S-l-o-w-l-y, if in fact I didn’t understand what he was asking me.

And this is where I calmly and collectively THROW THIS DAMN BINGO CARD INTO THE BACK SEAT AND SAY

“NO MORE QUESTIONS!!!!!  FIND THE THINGS ON THE CARD!!!!!”

Along with the exceptional knack of question asker, Michael can also remember EVERY make of car and furthermore, WHO drives each make.  “Daddy drives a Ford like Grandpa P & Uncle Buddy.  Grandma drives a Chrysler, Nicole drives a Mazda and so on and so on.

I started off making a basic BINGO board in PSE and for the Car Bingo side I added all the different makes of cars.

On the flip side, I made a Road Trip Bingo and added things you would find along the highway.  I added the license plates of the 3 states Michael has lived in  (and recognizes) as well as some construction equipment because let’s face it…there is ALWAYS highway construction going on!

I had my good friends at Office Depot print these cards back to back on a single piece of cardstock and then laminate it on 5 mil laminate.  You can do this all on your own at home if you have the tools.  Me, I am a new SAHM and haven’t acquired all the gadgets yet.  (Feel free to send me a Silhouette if you are in the giving mood 🙂 )

I used some adhesive velcro and wrapped the loop side around a dry erase marker and the hook side to a clip board.  I then used a make-up foundation applicator sponge as an eraser!  I attached that also using adhesive velcro and wah-lah…Bingo in the car!  Combines two great games, “I Spy” and “Bingo”  And finally…silence…until Ryan wakes up that is!

Download your copies of Road Trip and Car Make Bingo below!  I also added a blank copy if you want to make your own!  Just click on the image below!  If you like these downloads, considering following my blog or follow me on facebook!  You just might like something else I ramble about!  Happy downloading!

Let Him Sleep…

I simply adore the wall vinyl that reads “Let Him Sleep, For When He Wakes, He Will Move Mountains”  However we are renting so I don’t want to purchase one, only to have to throw it away later on.  Most say they are repositionable but not reusable, and some say may cause damage to textured walls or not adhere to textured walls well.   Not only are we renting, we have textured walls.  So, I did as any DIY’er would do…I made my own on PSE and framed it for Ryan’s room!

You can remember how I rambled on about not having decorated a nursery and might remember me saying  I would do the best I could with the renting and budget situation.  I am happy with it!  I used a daily deal from Winkflash and got the 8×10 print for $0.75!  (I actually ordered 3 separate 8×10’s and (1) 5×7 and with shipping my total was only three dollars and some change!  Rock on!  I used a frame I already had with a matte I already had, to size it down to 8 x 10.

I am using Orange, Turquoise, Yellow and Lime Green for color inspirations for Ryan’s room.  We have a dark beige color on the walls so I chose to go bright with the background.  I also changed up the colors on a few copies, so if the colors work for you, feel free to print them out for free!!  Just click on the photos below and download away!  If you like this printable, think about subscribing to my blog or following my page on facebook!  You never know, I might have something else you will like also! 🙂
